During your first visit, we may use a 3D X-ray (Cone Beam CT scan) to diagnose your issue and plan the best treatment. Your endodontist will then explain your options. Once you decide to proceed, we’ll schedule your root canal treatment, which typically takes 1-2 hours.
How Do I Know if I Require Root Canal Treatment?
You might need root canal treatment if you experience some of these signs:
Persistent tooth pain: This pain can be constant or come and go, and might be sharp, throbbing, or dull.
Sensitivity to hot or cold: The tooth might react painfully to hot or cold temperatures, even after the source is removed (like hot coffee or cold ice cream).
Swelling of the gums around the tooth: This can indicate infection.
Visible damage to the tooth: A crack, chip, or large cavity can expose the pulp and lead to infection.
Drainage from the tooth: Pus coming from the tooth is a sign of infection.
It’s important to note that not everyone experiences all of these symptoms. If you have any concerns about your tooth pain or sensitivity, contact us for a proper diagnosis. We can perform tests to examine the tooth and determine if root canal treatment is necessary.
